Privacy policy
Draft of 3 November 2026
This is a draft written for the beta. It hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer and will change before Hourbrook leaves beta. The operator's legal name and address still need to be added.
The short version
The Hourbrook app records which app, window and web page you use, and keeps that on your Mac. We never receive it. If you sign in, the entries you choose to log are stored on our server so you can see them on the web, on other Macs and, if you're on a team, so your team can. Plain English summary: Privacy.
What stays on your device
Activity (app names and identifiers, window titles, web addresses, times), memories, time away, calendar events read from your Mac, the model that drafts entries, rules and exclusion lists. These are stored in a database in your user Library folder. Hourbrook does not send them to us or to anyone else.
What we receive and keep
- Your account: your email address, and your name if you give one.
- What you log: entries (title, project, start and end, notes, tags, billable), projects, clients, rates, invoices, plans, and your tasks, which stay private to you.
- Teams: membership, roles and invitations.
- The beta list: the email address you give us, the time you joined and the country your request came from, as reported by our host.
- Server logs: our host records requests (such as IP addresses) for security and reliability.
Why
To run the service you asked for: sign you in, sync and show your entries, let your team work together, send the emails you asked for (sign-in codes, shared reports, the beta announcement). We don't sell data, show ads or use analytics in the app.
Who processes it for us
- Cloudflare: hosts the website, the server and the database.
- Resend: sends sign-in codes and other emails.
Services you connect yourself (Jira, Linear, GitHub, Toggl, Harvest, an AI app such as Claude) receive what you choose to send them, under their own terms.
How long
Your account data is kept while you have an account. Ask us to delete your account and we delete what you logged from our server. Activity on your Mac is kept for as long as you choose in Settings › Privacy, and you can delete it at any time.
Your rights
You can see, export, correct and delete your data. The app exports everything as JSON; for anything else, reply to any email from Hourbrook (a support address will be listed here before the beta opens). If you're in the EU or UK you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
We'll date every version of this policy and email account holders about changes that matter.
