Time tracking that stays on your Mac

Hourbrook notes the app, window and page in front, draws your day as a brook and drafts your entries. Titles and addresses stay on the Mac. Below is a sample day: pick memories, then log them.

Free beta · macOS 14 or later · Apple silicon

Your day

A day, start to end

Install it once, then just work. Here is one day with Hourbrook, printed out: what it did, and the two minutes that were yours.

Where it lives on your Mac

A small item in the menu bar, and a main window with your day, week and tasks. A native Mac app, quick and quiet, with everything it learns kept on the Mac.

Your activity stays on your Mac

Apps, window titles and web addresses go into a database on your Mac, and sync never sends them. Suggestions are learned on the Mac, from entries you logged.

What syncs is what you log: its title, project and time, and any note you add. A test plants a secret app, title and address and fails if entry sync puts any of them in a request.

Fair time

Hourbrook is for the person doing the work, not for watching them. So it counts time the way you'd count it yourself.

Breaks count as work

A coffee or a think between two pieces of the same work stays in it. You choose how long a break can be: 15 minutes, half an hour, 45 minutes or an hour.

Waiting on your agent counts

While Claude Code, Codex or a build is busy, sitting still is still work, for up to three hours. Hourbrook checks only whether they're busy, never what they do.

Calls count, however still you sit

Zoom, Meet, Teams and Slack huddles are never time away. A call shows on your day while it runs.

Rounding goes your way

When you log picked memories, the entry is rounded out to the quarter hour: 13:10 to 15:46 logs as 13:00 to 16:00, and the card tells you so.

No score, no deductions

No productivity score, no ranking, no idle time taken off. Nothing on your day is graded.

No screenshots, no keystrokes

It reads which app and window is in front. It never takes a picture of your screen or records what you type.

Does it take screenshots or log keystrokes? No. It notes the app in front, its window title and the address of the browser tab. No pictures of your screen, nothing you type.

Where does my activity go? Into a database on your Mac. Sync sends only what you log. If you connect Claude, its answers carry your logged time, totals and agent time per repository, never titles or addresses.

Does the AI run in the cloud? Drafts do not: they come from a small model trained on your Mac from entries you logged. Claude, if you connect it, is Anthropic's cloud model.

Can my manager see my day? No. A team sees the entries people chose to log. Apps, titles and addresses are never synced.

Does a break count against me? No. Short breaks fold into your work, calls count, waiting on an agent counts, and nothing is deducted for idle time.

Why does macOS warn me when I open it? The beta isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS can't check it and won't open it on its own. Allow it once in System Settings › Privacy & Security (Open Anyway); after that it opens like any app.

Does it run on an Intel Mac? Not yet: the beta is built for Apple silicon. Pick “Intel Mac?” by the download and we'll email you when there's a build for Intel.

Is there a Windows version? It's in the works, with the same rules. Get told when it's ready.

Do I need an account? Yes, during the beta the app asks you to sign in. Your activity still stays on the Mac.

What does it cost after the beta? Solo is free, Solo Plus is $4 a month billed yearly, teams are free up to five people. Pricing.
