A brook of hours
A working day doesn't run in blocks. It runs like water: streams of work joining and parting, wide when you were busy, narrow when you weren't. Hourbrook draws it that way, so you can see your day before you log it.
What we believe
Time tracking should work for the person doing the work. Everything else follows from that.
- What you did is yours. It stays on your Mac. You decide what becomes an entry, and only entries leave.
- Time is counted fairly. A break inside your work is part of it; so is a call, and so is waiting on an agent.
- Nobody is scored. No percentages, no rankings, no chasing.
- Say what's true. On this site too: no invented customers, no borrowed logos, and comparisons that say where others are better.
The app, in four pieces
A small item in the menu bar, and a main window with your day, week and tasks. A native Mac app, with everything it learns kept on the Mac.
Questions
Does it take screenshots or log keystrokes?
No. It records the app in front, its window title and the address of the browser tab you're on. That's all, and sync never sends it.
Which browsers does it read addresses from?
Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge and Vivaldi; macOS asks once per browser. Firefox works with window titles only.
Can I keep an app or a site out completely?
Yes. Add it to Never record these apps or sites in Settings. Time there leaves no trace, as if the Mac were idle.
What happens to private windows?
When Hourbrook can tell a window is private, it keeps only “Private window”, with no title or address. It can tell in Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge and Vivaldi when Web addresses is on, in Safari when its menus are in English, and in Firefox by the title. The details
Does a break count against me?
No. Breaks inside your work count up to a limit you choose, calls count, waiting on an agent counts. Fair time
Does the AI run in the cloud?
The drafts don't: they come from a small model on your Mac, trained on entries you logged. Claude, if you connect it, is Anthropic's model in the cloud.
What does Claude see through MCP?
Logged entries, totals and agent time per repository; minutes per app only if you allow it. Never titles, addresses or prompts.
What can an admin see on a team?
Logged time, plans and capacity. Never apps, window titles, web addresses, memories or calendar events. Rates and profit only for owners and admins.
Is there a Windows or iPhone app?
Windows is in the works. Get told when it's ready. There's no iPhone app; the web app works on a phone.
What does the beta cost?
Nothing. The prices after it are early and may change.
Do I need an account?
Yes, the app asks you to sign in during the beta. Your activity still stays on the Mac.
